POLLUTION

“of course, pollution comes from measurable residues of the work and transformations related to energy, but fundamentally it emanates from our will to appropriate, our desire to conquer and expand the space of our properties.”

Serres, Malfeasance

This studio is not about environmentalist ecology.
This studio is not about poverty.
This studio is not about being ‘good‘.

This studio is about POLLUTION.

Pollution is excess—matter, desire, and waste overflowing into the world.
Pollution is both stain and seed, destruction and creation, impurity and renewal.
Pollution is a condition that blurs the sacred and obscene.
Pollution is human excess made visible, layering waste and wonder.

Pasolini has been invited to India to make a film about pollution. He has been given a plot in the center of the city for two years, where he can do whatever he wants—but he must follow four rules:

Something he must save.
Something he must destroy.
Something he must bring.
Something he must give.

You are here to advise Pasolini how to develop the concept of pollution.
You are here to support Pasolini in designing the scenography for his film.
You are here to help Pasolini shape the urbanism of the plot.
You are here to assist Pasolini in making a contract with the citizens.

🌸️ PROTAGONIST

Pier Paolo Pasolini

Filmmaker, Essayist, Painter, and Political Agitator

Pier Paolo Pasolini was a singular voice in 20th-century culture—militant, poetic, and unapologetically contradictory. A staunch Marxist with a deep nostalgia for tradition, Catholicism, and the sacred, he defied ideological containment.

He envisioned his legacy as pasoliniano—a term encapsulating his fiercely incisive journalism, the raw sensuality of sub-proletarian life, and an intellectual engagement that was both visceral and erudite.

Pasolini embodied contradiction: a gay man with conservative instincts, a communist mourning the erosion of religious consciousness, an avant-garde artist who rejected the avant-garde. A relentless defender of the oppressed, he often alienated his own political allies. His work thrived on tension, navigating the fault lines between ideology and aesthetics, never yielding to a singular discourse but instead embracing the dissonance that defined his vision.

🌸️ SITE

Mumbai

Mumbai is a vibrant metropolis, a city of chaos known for its fast-paced life, diverse communities, chaotic beauty, contradictions and layers of history. The city blends the colonial era architecture with towering skyscapers, bustiling markets and coastal promenads. It is the heart bollywood cinema, indian film industry and major financial centre. The crowded local trains, busy markets, highrise residential units, buzzing streets present a contrast of love, hate and excess
